here are some pencils from the upcoming daves killer bread coloring book. its gonna be amazing!!!

i went to nyu the other day to give a talk about comics in the classroom. it was amazing! we did some activities at the end that i would like to share with you:
first students got into groups of 3 and took turns contributing improvised panels to make a comic strip:

then everyone drew their own comics. we picked a theme-energy conservation-and collectively wrote a list of ideas and elements that could be used in the comic.

i love this stuff! thanks so much, nyu students!
if anyone sees their work on here and wants to be credited or have it taken off, contact me and i will comply immediately.

so here’s the finished thing of that thing i was drawing. i think it’s going to be on an iphone app or something. the tech savvy gentleman who hired me to do this is going to be making some updates to ohyesverynice.com soon. that’s right! first update in 4 years!!! watch for it!
i’ve been trying to post less booby drawings on here because i can’t imagine it’s helping my career in childhood education, but i really liked how this submission for the next issue of stumptown underground came out. the theme for the issue is, “sex.”

it’s based on an old playboy pin-up. after i finished it i thought i’d rather have done a portrait of r. kelly, but i had already used up all my spare time.
I usually try to focus more on drawing than writing on this here blog, but i thought i’d post a link to something i wrote for open salon. click here to read my picks for the top 10 graphic novels of the 00’s. i think ill do some more writing for them, or marry this blog to that one, or something. more on that soon!
and just so i dont post without any pictures at all, heres a little preview of a side project i’m working on:

my latest submission for monster transmission channel 151. The theme is giant monsters. submit!

wow, i haven’t blogged for a while! mostly i’m working on design stuff and corrections for to teach, which is as boring to look at as it is to do. in more exciting news, i got an advanced copy in the mail and i thought it looked pretty darn good! look for the final, spelling error free version in stores this may!!!
oh, also, get your portrait drawn on my blog is officially over.

here’s a little preview of my next big project, the dave’s killer bread coloring book! more on that soon!
happy new year, everybody! 2009 was rad! could 2010 be more rad?!!? stay tuned!
i thought that whole, “get your portrait drawn on my blog” thing kinda petered out, but then all of a sudden i got 3 whole requests!

apologies if i made you look lousy~i drew these with a brush and made no corrections…
i’m not sure if the portrait offer has expired or not… is there anyone else who is dying to have their portrait drawn?

next: more!
