i’m having trouble with blogging

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

man, sometimes you just cant post on your blog.  is anybody still reading this thing?  well, here are some drawings i drew:

devlinthat one’s a portrait commission.  next is a drawing i drew for a smithmag collection.  they asked my old pal bill ayers to do an entry and he thought it would be fun if he and i did it as a revisitation to our book.  it was pretty fun to draw these guys again after about a year or so.

smithmag

well, i guess that’s enough drawings for now.

To Teach media blah blah blah

I know that you are all like, “enough already with the to teach stuff” but i am learning about the rules of the internet and self-promotion and stuff and im pretty sure that one of the main ones is that you have to make all these pieces of information and media formats point to each other all the time.  with that in mind, here is a collection of interviews and reviews and stuff:

Podcasts:

me and bill on inkstuds, a really good comics interview podcast.

me and bill on portlands kboo public radio show, words and pictures.

we were on indie spinner racks mocca festival episode, along with our amazing editor, meg lemke.

Interviews and Articles:

me and bill interviewed in smithmag.

bill’s daily crosshatch interview part 1. part 2. part 3. part 4.

my daily crosshatch interview.

bill’s graphic novel reporter interview.

and i did one with them, too!

bill interviewed by real change news.

an article that ran in time out chicago.

a scene was used as an example on a blog called “stuff white people do”

Reviews:

heres one from boing boing.

and here is one from the huffington post.

heres a lousy one we got on bookslut.  dang!

heres one from a  blog called syndicate product covert hq.

and a really nice one from a  blog called the long and shortbox of it.

im sure i left some stuff out by accident… ill be sure to update if i did.  anyway, since i kind of think its a rip-off to just post a bunch of promotional materials, heres kind of a fun thing that didnt make it into the final version of to teach.  we were coming up with ideas for the frontispiece and backispiece and i thought it might be fun to show some comics that were supposed to have been made by the kids in the book.   the results were pretty weird, which is why youll only ever see them here:

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Hi friends!

A couple of bits of news:
The Portrait Project will not be reaching its goal so everyone who bid will be getting their money back.  The good news is that the Portrait Project is now an Etsy shop, and you can get the same exact deal by clicking right here. Many thanks so everyone who supported this project and I hope to see you on Etsy!  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions/concerns.

The other big news is that the To Teach tour starts next week!  Come see Bill and I at the following dates and places:

Tuesday, 5/18:  University Press books, 2439 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA.  6 PM.

Wednesday, 5/19:  Modern Times, 888 Valencia st.  San Francisco, CA.  7 PM.

Friday, 5/21:  The Green Arcade, 1680 Market st.  San Francisco, CA 7 PM.

Sunday, 5/23:  Floating World Comics, 20 NW 5th ave.  Portland, OR  6 PM.

We got to make a cool poster for the Floating world signing:

There should be free copies of the poster at the signing.  We’ll also be premiering the Dave’s Killer Bread Coloring and Activity Book, which I think came out really great!

Hope to see you there!  Stay tuned for more tour dates, already in the works!

MoCCA Fest/To Teach Release

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

This weekend is the Mocca Fest! It will be the first time ever that To Teach can be purchased!  I will be there all weekend and Bill Ayers will be there on Sunday!  He is sad about how I am getting all of the attention for this book, so please be kind and say hello to him. We will sign your books!

I got a few copies in the mail this week and the cover is all shiny and enticing!  I’m really happy with how this book came out.

an interview and a comic about a roomba

Friday, March 19th, 2010

here’s an interview i did for the daily crosshatch about my upcoming book!  i think that the person who transcribed it must have been in a really big hurry or something, but most of the points seem to come across…

in other news, here’s a comic i drew for the upcoming robot themed issue of stumptown underground.  it was written by my favorite sexy genius, katie rose leon.
